Pediatricians to help revise 1997 E/M Documentation Guidelines

Due to physician outcry over the complexities of the 1997 E/M Documentation Guidelines, the American Medical Association (AMA) and the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) met in April with the specialty societies to discuss changing these guidelines. The meeting concluded with the decision to postpone the E/M guidelines indefinitely until new guidelines can be created with physician input and pilot tested successfuly. The earliest implementation date would be January 1999.
