For minority children with disabilities, their health and even their lives hinge on how well their parents understand and accept a pediatrician's instructions. But because different cultures maintain diverse perspectives on disability, medicine and life in general, it is easy for medical communications to derail. Pediatricians can keep these relationships on track by taking simple steps to polish their cross-cultural skills.
