A teen recently presented as a new patient to our clinic. My examination revealed possible signs of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). I talked with the adolescent and the adolescent's family, then followed up with screening tests that confirmed my initial impression. I would like to seek further evaluation from an appropriate specialist. What type of consultant should I seek out? There are two aspects to consider in confirming your preliminary diagnosis of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. The teen should complete appropriate psychoeducational tests and also should be evaluated to rule out other conditions and determine whether other problems are present in addition to ADHD.
