When counseling parents of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), 92 percent of pediatricians responding to an AAP self-assessment exercise said parents ask them about alternative therapies, and more than 76 percent said that they have recommended diet changes for their ADHD patients. The exercise, titled "Monitoring Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder," was administered in spring 1997 by the AAP Ambulatory Care Quality Improvement Program (ACQIP) to its 2,154 subscribers. A total of 996 pediatricians responded.
