Academy encourages networking among women in pediatrics

M. Rosario Gonzalez de Rivas M.D., FAAP

The Women Pediatricians' Breakfast Forum, hosted by the AAP Committee on Pediatric Workforce (COPW) — formerly the Committee on Careers and Opportunities — has served as an opportunity for female pediatricians to exchange insights on issues of mutual concern for the past 12 years.

Currently, COPW studies the impact of gender on the pediatric workforce and makes policy recommendations. Issues identified for further study include gender related to practice location and number of hours worked, career stages of pediatricians, racial and ethnic diversity in pediatrics, salary and compensation, generalist and subspecialty mix in pediatrics, managed care and future trends.
