Legislative reminder

Marjorie Tharp

The legislative clock is ticking, and time is winding down for the 105th Congress. The target adjournment date is Oct. 9, allowing enough time for congressional members who are up for re-election to return home and campaign.

AAP members should use the time remaining to promote tobacco control legislation and quality health care for children.

House and Senate members will be back in their home districts from Aug. 10 through Sept. 7. Pediatricians should call or write their congressional representatives, invite them to a meeting at their offices, clinics or hospitals, or to participate in town forums.

For background information or assistance, contact the AAP Washington Office at (800) 336-5475.
