Mandatory Reye Syndrome warning labels, called for in regulations proposed by federal officials, fail to explain the association between aspirin and the syndrome, the Academy argued in a recent letter to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). "Although the proposed wording is commendably brief and prominent, it fails to explain the association between aspirin and Reye Syndrome which a succession of studies has demonstrated," AAP President Martin H. Smith, M.D., wrote, citing a recent New England Journal of Medicine article.
