As the malpractice crisis heats up, physicians and patients across the country have begun to use hot lines. DocketSearch Network of Chicago has started Physician's Alert, a hot line to tell physicians whether a prospective patient has ever filed a malpractice suit. The hot line, which operates in 30 major cities across the United States, charges physicians $20 for every name screened, said company president Michael Eckstein.
