National hot lines spread word of malpractice risk

As the malpractice crisis heats up, physicians and patients across the country have begun to use hot lines.

DocketSearch Network of Chicago has started Physician's Alert, a hot line to tell physicians whether a prospective patient has ever filed a malpractice suit.

The hot line, which operates in 30 major cities across the United States, charges physicians $20 for every name screened, said company president Michael Eckstein.
