A difficult time for parents offen occurs during their children's adolescent years, when many teens rebel. But, according to an adolescent medicine specialist, parents who are understanding of changes that accompany their adolescent's development physical, emotional and behavioral will be better equipped to handle the rebellion. At a meeting of the AAP Section on Adolescent Health, Robert Masland, M.D., chief of adolescent medicine at Children's Hospital Medical Center, Boston, said, "The biggest problem in managing a rebellious adolescent is lack of knowledge on the part of parents knowing what's important and what's trivial, when to take a stand and when to be more flexible."
