HEALTH ALERT

Expired ipecac effective

Expired ipecac is still 100 percent effective up to four years after the expiration date on the bottle, according to a study in the December 1986 Pediatrics.

The study, conducted over a six-month period at the Massachusetts and New Hampshire Poison Centers, looked at 200 patients treated with expired ipecac syrup. Nearly all of the patients were younger than six years old.
