A stronger bond between the Academy and the National Medical Association (NMA) would yield "nothing but advantages," NMA 1985-86 President Edith Irby Jones, M.D., recently told AAP News. The NMA, which represents about 10,500 black physicians from every branch of medicine, shares many objectives with the Academy, particularly the goal of providing the best possible health care, Dr. Jones said.
