Time-limited certification won't affect AAP member requirements

The new time-limited certification policy adopted by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) for new physicians will not affect membership in the Academy AAP President Martin H. Smith, M.D., announced recently.

"If you have qualified for the Academy and have once become certified," he said, "you will continue to qualify for membership in the Academy even if you are not recertified."

The announcement came at the "Council on Pediatric Practice Luncheon" at the AAP Spring Session. At the luncheon, former ABP President Thomas Oliver, M.D., FAAP, explained the new ABP time-limited certification policy for pediatricians.
