Parents are relieved to hear that raising a newborn is normally an exhaustive and tough business, a child development specialist noted recently. What's important, he continued, is that in the battle of control, parents have to adjust to newborn situations and changes in their own lives to keep from being overwhelmed. "It is amazing to see the energy and control a 28-pound baby unleashes on a family. This child can conquer a family of four, no matter how much of a fight you put up. When parents have trouble with getting the baby to eat, sleep or stop crying, they need to understand that most parents have these dilemmas," J. Michael Cupoli, M.D., said in an interview before the Spring Session, where he presented a plenary session.
