Excessive awards in vaccine lawsuits lead to `law of the jungle'

If the mounting savagery of tort law combat isn't checked, the day will soon come when we can no longer lay claim to being a civilized society.

Horror stories chronicling a legal system out of control have become routine media fare, and one of the most frightening yet surfaced in Kansas City this week.

It had to do with two tragedies.

The first tragedy involved an infant girl who contracted polio nearly three years ago as a result of being innoculated with the vaccine that was supposed to prevent the disease.
