I think that starting a time limited certification process for new pediatricians is a terrible thing. The demand and stresses of private practice leave very little time for a normal life. A great deal of material covered during the initial certifcation process has absolutely nothing to do with the real world. Clinical entities in general practice are limited in scope. Continuing education as mandated by the local medical societies and by peer pressure are more than sufficient to maintain competency.
