Calling for more financial support

After five years of belt tightening, federal officials should provide more financial support to maternal and child health programs in the continuing struggle against infant mortality and morbidity, two AAP spokesmen testified last month.

"We depart this year from our usual request of specific funding levels for categorical programs in order to focus on a central theme — infant mortality and morbidity," Marvin Kolb, M.D., told members of the Senate Labor-HHS Appropriations Subcommittee.
