The strain of balancing motherhood with a career in pediatrics is something Marianne Neifert, M.D., FAAP, understands quite well. Dr. Neifert had her first child in 1968 while studying pre-med, her second and third while attending medical school, her fourth while interning and her fifth during residency. And in spite of the demands of motherhood, she still finished her medical program on time. "I would never recommend to a student to do what I did," said Dr. Neifert, who taught at the University of Colorado for 10 years before joining the staff at AMI St. Luke's Hospital, Denver, in November.
