Too many innocent lives were being lost on Tennessee's roads, and it bothered AAP Fellow Robert Sanders, M.D., enough that he decided to do something about it. Dr. Sanders, a county health director and medical examiner, has spent the last 12 years making the roads safer for children, their families and others. In 1977 he convinced Tennessee's General Assembly to pass a child restraint law the first in the nation. That law became a model for other states and has saved countless young lives.
