A number of deaths from hepatitis B in recent years could have been prevented simply through immunization, according to Saul Krugman, M.D., FAAP, professor of pediatrics at New York University School of Medicine. When distribution of the hepatitis B vaccine first began in June 1982, Dr. Krugman told AAP News, many health professionals refused to take it because they were not convinced that it was safe.
