Physician sees need to improve services to handicapped children

Even though as many as 10 million people under 21 years old are handicapped, it is not widely understood how these children and adolescents can be helped to reach their optimum, according to Merritt Low, M.D.

As a result, only a small number of pediatricians have the knowledge and devotion to fully meet the physical and psychological needs of handicapped children, said Dr. Low, a practicing pediatrician in Turners Falls, Mass., and a former AAP president.
