Despite some heated opposition, more and more medical specialties are adopting policies of time-limited certification. "Most people who are concerned about recertification view it as retaking the test that they took the first time around," Donald Langsley, M.D., executive vice president of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), told AAP News. But Dr. Langsley and other supporters of time-limited certification maintain that it is a way for physicians to update their skills and assure the public that they're keeping current with rapidly changing medical knowledge.
