TV, radio ads for birth control recommended

Promoting responsible sexual behavior and decision-making to adolescents may result in a greater percentage of wanted and well-spaced pregnancies. For this reason, the Academy has officially announced its support and encouragement for responsible nonprescription contraceptive advertising on television and radio.

"There is no evidence that increased sexual knowledge alters the likelihood of teenagers having sexual intercourse," notes a policy statment titled "Sexuality, Contraception and the Media," which appears in the September 1986 Pediatrics. The statement was written by the AAP Committee on Adolescence.
