Vaccine compensation: Enactment delayed

Federal lawmakers delayed choosing a funding mechanism for the national vaccine compensation system when they pushed back indefinitely the deadline for budget reconciliation.

The compensation system will not be operational until a funding source is determined.

A House Ways and Means subcommittee has recommended that general revenues be authorized in a straight appropriation to fund all past vaccine injury cases. The full committee is considering a surcharge and several other funding sources to fund future cases.
