Judge gives `view from the bench' on child sexual abuse

Legislative and social change is needed to prevent child sexual abuse and to better help and protect those children who have been abused, said U.S. Circuit Judge Sol Gothard during the 1987 AAP Annual Meeting.

Speaking at a news conference during the meeting, Gothard called for legislation that would mandate state licensing of all day care centers. He also said legislation is needed to require police checks be done to determine the arrest records of individuals who supervise children's activities when parents are not present.
