The federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is requiring that all non-prescription aspirin products carry modified, permanent warning labels about Reye syndrome, said FDA spokes-woman Faye Peterson. The modified warning label states: "Warning: Children and teenagers should not use this medicine for chickn pox or flu symptoms before a doctor is consulted about Reye syndrome, a rare but serious illness reported to be associated with aspirin." The phrase "reported to be associated with aspirin" is new.
