UNIFORMED SERVICES PEDIATRIC SEMINAR SEATTLE

The 38th Annual Uniformed Services Pediatric Seminar (USPS) will be held March 8 11 in Seattle. USPS offers lectures in key areas of pediatrics and highlights recent advances in pediatric clinical diagnosis and treatment, both in the United States and around the world. Topics have been specifically selected to provide timely and useful information.
Among the topics offered this year are:
- bio- and chemical terrorism (Biowarfare & Bioterrorism - Case Studies; Protecting the Homeland Through Immunization);
- developmental/behavioral pediatrics (Johnny Wont . . . Developmental Problems in Your Office; School Performance and Learning Disorders: A Guide for Pediatric Providers; Helping Military Families Manage Preschool Behavioral Problems);
- pediatric surgery (Whats New in Brain Surgery for Children; Pediatric Surgery: Evidenced-based Treatment);
- pediatric ophthalmology (Front-end Alignment vs. Tune-Up: Which Is the Best Treatment for Lazy Eye?);
- obesity (Theories and Data on Obesity: The New Public Health Problem for the Pediatrician; There Is No Immunization for Obesity - So What Can a Pediatrician Do?);
- dysmorphology (Practical Dysmorphology and Primary Care; Pediatric Spine: Deformity and Pain); and
- technology (Technology in Medicine: Improving Efficiency for Military Pediatricians Around the World; From Handhelds to Electronic Medical Records: New Information Technology for Pediatricians).
Some of the special features of USPS include:
- discussion of operational medicine in the Iraqi conflict,
- military pediatric research competitions,
- poster session with presenters available, and
- military medical humanitarian assistance course following the USPS.
USPS is designed to:
- offer current information in various pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties and describe how this information affects your pediatric practice,
- summarize the latest issues in caring for children in a multicultural world, and
- provide an understanding of military operational medicine as it pertains to pediatric practice.
Participants can earn up to 25.75 hours in category 1 credit toward the AMA Physicians Recognition Award.
