`Practical Pediatrics' comes to Seattle, Hilton Head in May

The continuing medical education (CME) course "Practical Pediatrics," for pediatricians and other health care professionals caring for children, is set for May 18-20 in Seattle and May 25-27 (Memorial Day weekend) on Hilton Head Island, S.C.

Some of the topics and faculty to be featured in Seattle include:

  • Sleepless (in Seattle): Bedtime Struggles and Night Wakings, with Nathan Blum, M.D., FAAP, associate professor of pediatrics, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Philadelphia;
  • The Relationship Between Obesity and Respiratory Disease in Children, with Michael Tsangaris, M.D., FAAP, associate professor of clinical pediatrics, Section of Pediatric Pulmonology, Critical Care and Allergy, James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children, Indianapolis;
  • "My Head Hurts": Evaluation and Management of the Child with Headache, with Robert C. Pedersen, M.D., FAAP, assistant professor of pediatrics and neurology, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, University of Hawaii, Honolulu;
  • Metabolic Syndrome and Type 2 Diabetes: More than Just Obesity, with Gary L. Francis, M.D., Ph.D., FAAP, professor of pediatrics, Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia, Richmond.

Among the sessions to be featured at Hilton Head are:

  • Autism: Making the Diagnosis Before Age 2, with Chris Plauché Johnson, M.D., M.Ed., FAAP, professor of pediatrics, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio;
  • Pediatric Diagnostic Dilemmas, with Robert Listernick, M.D., FAAP, professor of pediatrics, Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago;
  • Problem Cases in Pediatric Cardiology, with William A. Lutin, M.D., Ph.D., FACC, FAAP, professor of pediatrics (cardiology), Medical College of Georgia, Augusta; and
  • Management of the Draining Ear, with David H. Darrow, M.D., D.D.S., FAAP, associate professor of otolaryngology and pediatrics, Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk.

For each course, participants can earn a maximum of 16.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
