Lake Tahoe hosts Practical Pediatrics, offers range of seminars

David Ma
Editorial Intern

Figure 1
Green pines and white snow will greet participants of the Practical Pediatrics course Jan. 29 to Feb. 1 at the Resort at Squaw Creek in Lake Tahoe, Calif.

The four-day continuing medical education (CME) program offers the latest information on topics such as infectious diseases, pediatric musculoskeletal exams and autism screening. General session lecture highlights include pediatric sports injuries, care of infants with bronchiolitis, childhood hearing loss and cochlear implants, and management of CA-MRSA infections.

Lake Tahoe offers a diverse selection of recreational activities. Downhill and cross-country skiing, dog sledding and snowshoeing are among the many opportunities in town. A scenic drive around the lake, gondola ride to the top of the mountains or sleigh rides give a beautiful view of the land and provide great photography opportunities.

Course highlights and faculty include:

  • 1 in 152: What is the Pediatric Clinician Supposed to Do in Autism Screening? with Marilyn Augustyn, M.D., FAAP, associate professor of pediatrics, Boston University School of Medicine, Boston;
  • Hot Topics in Infectious Diseases, with Penelope Dennehy, M.D., FAAP, professor of pediatrics, Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Providence, R.I.;
  • Diagnostic Pearls in Pediatric Dermatology, with Fred E. Ghali, M.D., FAAD, FAAP, clinical assistant professor, University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas;
  • The Pediatric Musculoskeletal Exam: Visual Diagnosis, with William A. Phillips, M.D., FAAOS, FAAP, professor of orthopedic surgery and pediatrics, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston;
