Dr. Lauer trained leaders in pediatric cardiology; received lifetime award

Ronald Lauer, M.D., FAAP, of Iowa City, Iowa, died Dec. 29 of complications from Alzheimer's disease at age 77.

Dr. Lauer was instrumental in the field of pediatric cardiology in research and mentoring, having trained many of today's leaders in the field. He was a member of the AAP Section on Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery for more than 40 years and served on its executive committee from 1969-1974. He received section's prestigious Founders Award in 1991, honoring him for lifetime achievement in the field of pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery.
