Vancouver idyllic setting for sports medicine CME course

Vancouver will host the "PPC Sports Medicine" conference June
19-22 at the Marriott Vancouver Pinnacle Downtown in British Columbia, Canada.
The city's natural landscape provides an enjoyable setting for shopping,
dining and recreation.
The conference is an opportunity for primary care practitioners to learn a
practical approach to both musculoskeletal and medical issues in youth sports
medicine. The course presents material in a variety of formats, including
plenary sessions, case-based discussion, question-and-answer sessions with the
faculty, and hands-on workshops.
The topics have been selected to help pediatric health care providers
improve musculoskeletal examination skills; learn how to prevent, diagnose and
manage sports injuries and medical conditions; and address hot topics in
sports medicine and fitness.
Topic highlights and faculty include:
- Sports Nutrition, Supplements and Anabolic Steroids and
Chronic Shoulder Injuries, with Bernard A. Griesemer, M.D., FAAP,
adjunct clinical faculty, Missouri State University, Springfield;
- Lumbar Spine and Lower Back Pain, with David T. Bernhardt, M.D.,
FAAP, professor of pediatrics, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and
Public Health, Madison;
- Dance Injuries, with Chris Koutures, M.D., FAAP, private practice,
pediatrics and sports medicine, Anaheim Hills, Calif.;
- Asthma and Vocal Cord Dysfunction and Boxer's Fracture,
with Joseph A. Congeni, M.D., FAAP, associate professor of pediatrics,
Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, Rootstown;
- Chronic Knee Injuries, with Amanda Weiss-Kelly, M.D., FAAP,
assistant professor of pediatrics and orthopedics, Case Western Reserve
University, Cleveland;
- Acute Knee Injuries and Knee Osteochondritis Dissecans,
with Andrew J.M. Gregory, M.D., FAAP, assistant professor of orthopedics and
pediatrics, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tenn.; and
- Acute Shoulder Injuries and Special Needs: Challenged
Athletes, with Michele LaBotz, M.D., private practice, InterMed PA, South
Portland, Maine.
Course director is Paul R. Stricker, M.D., FAAP, sports medicine
specialist, Scripps Clinic Carmel Valley, San Diego.
Participants can earn a maximum of 17.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
