Enjoy the view at Practical Pediatrics, Breckenridge

Hit the slopes or simply enjoy the view of the mountaintops during the Practical Pediatrics continuing medical education (CME) course Jan. 14-17 at the Beaver Run Resort & Conference Center in Breckenridge, Colo. One of the top 10 ski resort destinations in the country, Breckenridge boasts 300 inches of snow in the winter and 300 days of sunshine annually.

The course includes general session lectures and question-and-answer sessions for all course registrants as well as concurrent interactive seminars. Concurrent seminars are repeated each day, giving all course registrants the opportunity to attend three of the concurrent seminars.

General session topics include gastroenterology, general pediatrics, infectious diseases, neurosurgery, radiology and sports medicine. Highlights include:

  • Managing Concussions in Young Athletes: Are the Guidelines Changing?
  • Top Injuries and What Works in Prevention: Impactful Anticipatory Guidance;
  • Evaluation of Swallowing Dysfunction in Children;
  • Foodborne Illness;
  • Diagnosis and Management of Skull Deformity in Children; and
  • The Child with Functional Abdominal Pain.

Concurrent seminar highlights and faculty include:

  • Chest Imaging: Congenital, Infectious and Acquired Diseases, with Maria-Gisela Mercado-Deane, M.D., FAAP, pediatric radiologist, Austin Radiological Association, Austin, Texas;
  • Common GI Problems, with Carlo DiLorenzo, M.D., chief, Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus, Ohio;
  • Cases — Bring Yours or Try to Solve Mine, with Meg Fisher, M.D., FAAP, medical director, The Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, N.J.;
  • Pitfalls in Sports Medicine: My Favorite Cases and Mistakes, with Gregory L. Landry, M.D., FAAP, professor of pediatrics, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Madison;
  • Bumps, Dimples and Spots Over the Head and Spine, with Edward R. Smith, M.D., FAAP, assistant professor of surgery, neurosurgeon at Harvard Medical School, Children’s Hospital Boston; and
  • Evidence-based Advocacy: How to Create and Deliver an Effective Message, with Flaura Koplin Winston, M.D., Ph.D., FAAP, associate professor of pediatrics at University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.

Course director is William Hennrikus, M.D., FAAOS, FAAP, professor of orthopedics and pediatrics at Penn State College of Medicine, Hershey, Pa.

Participants can earn a maximum of 17.25 AMA PRA Category 1 credits.
