Children’s coats

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced recalls of the following products. Consumers should stop using recalled products unless otherwise instructed. For a complete list of recalled products, visit www.cpsc.gov.

Units: About 19,200 in the United States and 3,900 in Canada

Retailer: Gap Inc., of San Francisco.

Hazard: Toggle fasteners on the coats can break and detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.

Description: Three children’s coat styles with toggles are recalled: rose toggle hoodie (style 600298), pink duffle coat (style 600344) and blue plaid and Mojave toggle coat (style 600942). Coats were sold in infant sizes up to 24 months.

Sold at: babyGap, GapKids and Gap Stores nationwide and at www.gap.com from October 2008 through April 2009 for $20 to $50.

Remedy: Return coats to any babyGap, GapKids or Gap store for a refund. Those returning coats before Aug. 31 also receive a 20% off coupon for a regular-priced item. Contact Gap to return by mail if purchased online.
