Practical Pediatrics makes a splash in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Enjoy the crystal clear waters of St. Petersburg, Fla., Nov. 6-8, during the Practical Pediatrics continuing medical education course at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort & Golf Club.

Practical Pediatrics is designed for pediatricians, family physicians, pediatric nurse practitioners and other allied health professionals. The four-day course features prominent faculty presenting on current issues in pediatrics such as dental emergencies, atopic dermatitis and oral pathologies. General session lectures and question-and-answer sessions are offered.

Course highlights and faculty include:

  • Sports Preparticipation Examination and Scoliosis Screening, with Keith R. Gabriel, M.D., FAAOS, FAAP, associate professor of surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Springfield, Ill.;
  • What’s New in Pediatric Dermatology, with Alfred T. Lane, M.D., FAAD, FAAP, professor of dermatology and pediatrics, and chair of the department of dermatology at Stanford University, Stanford, Calif.;
  • Eye Examination Skills Using the Opthalmoscope and The Red Eye in Childhood: Differential Diagnosis and Management, with Steven J. Lichtenstein, M.D., FACS, FAAO, FAAP, associate clinical professor of surgery and pediatrics at University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria and Chicago;
  • Behavioral Counseling: Tips for the Busy Clinician, with Karen J. Miller, M.D., FAAP, associate professor of pediatrics at Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston;
  • Motivational Interviewing to Address Childhood Obesity and Evaluation and Management of the Child with Small Stature, with Robert P. Schwartz, M.D., FAAP, professor of pediatrics at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, N.C.; and
  • Pediatric Oral Pathology and Syndromes, with Rebecca L. Slayton, D.D.S., Ph.D., professor and chair of the department of pediatric dentistry at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, Iowa City, Iowa.

General session lecture highlights include: ADHD: Answering Parents’ Questions; Management of Dental Emergencies; Atopic Dermatitis; Strabismus and Amblyopia for the Pediatrician; Type 2 Diabetes and the Metabolic Syndrome; and Fractures You Should Not Miss.

Participants can earn a maximum of 17.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
