Violence casts fear over schools Some children are perpetrators, others victims

"Kids used to be worried about being asked to the dance, or understanding a class. Now they wonder if someone behind them has a knife."

That's what Sandra Hazouri and others see in today's classrooms, school hallways and playgrounds. A school counseling consultant with the Department of Public Instruction in Raleigh, N.C., Hazouri has noticed that increasing numbers of children have grown fearful of attending school.
