QUESTION: The pediatrician saw a child referred by his teacher because of learning problems associated with trouble maintaining his attention and impulsive behaviors. The evaluation included a comprehensive examination and history, and the pediatrician reviewed report cards, narrative teacher reports and attention rating scales. The pediatrician submitted a claim that was denied because the insurance company said all services associated with mental health problems should be performed by the behavior health organization. How does the pediatrician get reimbursed for these services?
