Patients must take responsibility for care

Pamela S. Smith M.D.1

1 Sycamore, OH

Like countless physicians, I am concerned regarding the problems that face our nation in regard to health care. When I read the AAP Special Report, titled "Solutions," I was pleased to see that the five key principles of the AAP plan include such things as universal access, preventive services, fair payment for services rendered, and freedom of choice for patients and physicians.

Unlike the participants in several of the missions and committees that have come out with statements and proposals regarding health care in the U.S., I do not feel that health care is a right.
