White House clears office laboratory regulations

Debra Fleischman

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has issued final regulations to implement the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA 88). All physician office labs are affected.

As of AAP News deadline, Feb. 26, HHS was preparing to have the regulations published in the Federal Register. Physicians are urged to carefully read the regulations once they are published to determine which standards will apply to their laboratories.
